Sam Smith In The Lonely Hour

Sam Smith has been making waves between North America and the UK, and now the burgeoning star has made Billboard chart history with his debut album, In The Lonely Hour.

The British soul singer and songwriter enters the Billboard Top 200 chart at No. 2, selling 166k copies of the Capitol Records album, in the first week of its U.S. release. This figure is impressive for any new artist, but especially historical because it gives Smith the highest selling debut album by a UK male artist in the 23-year history of Soundscan.

The album has been propelled by his Top-Ten hit single, “Stay With Me,” which has also just surpassed sales of one million copies this week. Singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey captured the No. 1 spot on the Top 200 this week with the debut of her sophomore album Ultraviolence, which sold 182k copies.
