Throwback Thursday: Lauryn Hill feat. D’Angelo – ‘Nothing Even Matters’

By

Lauryn Hill is an iconic R&B & Neo-Soul singer–songwriter, rapper, producer, and actress. Her debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, has sold over 8 million records and earned her five Grammy Awards: including ‘Best New Artist,’ ‘Best R&B Song,’ ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance,’ ‘Best R&B Album’ and ‘Album of the Year.’

“Nothing Even Matters” was a song off of her debut album that featured fellow Neo-Soul icon D’Angelo. The ballad showcased a brighter, more intimate perspective on the subject of love. The song was inspired by Hill’s relationship with Rohan Marley. Speaking about the songs lyrics Hill remarked: “I wanted to make a love song, á la Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, and give people a humanistic approach to love again without all the physicality and overt sexuality.

The song has been referred to as one of the best R&B duets ever, as both singers possessed nice vocal ability, soul, and charisma. The song expresses how love can make everything else seem irrelevant. Enjoy the throwback above!
