New Music: The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar – Pray For Me

By

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar look for salvation on their powerful new collaboration “Pray For Me.” After connecting on “Sidewalks” off Abel’s third album Starboy, the XO boss and TDE leader pitch a commanding message on the latest release off Black Panther: The Album.

Produced by Matt Schaeffer, Cardo, Cubeatz, and Sounwave, the track is led with static filled percussion and cinematic synths. The Weeknd opens with a harmonic chorus, “Who gon’ pray for me? / Take my pain for me? / Save my soul for me? / ‘Cause I’m alone you see,” he sings.

Kendrick follows with a heroic verse: “I fight pain and hurricanes / Today I wept / I’m tryna fight back tears / Flood on my doorsteps.”

Curated and produced by Lamar and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, the star-studded companion to Marvel’s highly-anticipated superhero film will be released digitally on Feb. 9 featuring Future, ScHoolboy Q, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Khalid, Swae Lee, Vince Staples, and more. It previously spawned the SZA & Kendrick collab “All The Stars.”

The Ryan Coogler-directed film, which stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong’o, hits theaters Feb. 16.
