Fans of R&B powerhouse Mario are dancing with joy today as the crooner has released his long-awaited fifth studio album, Dancing Shadows, via his label New Citizen and Empire.
The Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum artist first announced the album with the release of the lead single and opening song “Drowning.” The 11-song set also includes the title track, which Mario released a steamy music video for last month that features intimate dance sequences choreographed by the legendary, Richard “Richy” Jackson.
On Dancing Shadows, Mario taps his R&B spirit fans know and love and elevates the genre to a new level, experimenting with expansive electronic soundscapes, trap energy, and a pop sheen. The LP was primarily recorded in London and executive produced by prominent writer/producer/engineer, Jake Gosling, who’s credits include Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles, Daft Punk, and more.
“This album was the process of me becoming a true artist. Peeling back layers of experiences through my career and personal life for the substance and aesthetic of this album,” says Mario. “I wanted to take y’all on a ride of my personal taste in music and try to use my voice to help push the culture forward. I hope you enjoy the music as much as I enjoyed making it.”
To accompany the album release, Mario has shared a music video for the smooth song “Goes Like That.” Stream Dancing Shadows and watch the video below.
