By

“Focus” – Brandy

“Focus” is a funky bop, produced by the one and only Timbaland. On this upbeat track, she talks about wanting to keep her focus after a breakup. The song is found on her “Afrodisiac” album, which dropped shortly after her relationship with the father of her child ended. He infamously said the couple fabricated their marriage in order to protect her reputation.

“Truth Hurts” – Usher

On this track, Usher sings about a ‘player’ getting a taste of his own medicine. He’s wondering where his girl is going, and if she’s been lying to him. “Truth Hurts” was produced by the legendary Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

“Thinkin’ Bout My Ex” – Janet Jackson

“I gave you my body, and not my heart.” Janet Jackson lets it burn, apologizing for breaking someone’s heart for still thinking about her ex. But, she said she was honest from the beginning. Another song many can probably relate to.

“Let’s Get Lifted Again” – John Legend

One word: – falsetto. John Legend outdoes himself with this smooth track that’s short on words, but high on vocals.

“Hotline” – Ciara

At one point, Ciara beat boxes on this upbeat, groovy track created by super-producer, Bangladesh. “Hotline” is an underrated goody on the hit “Goodies” album.
