Summer Walker’s versatility as an artist and more importantly as a vocalist is something that deserves more attention. In this song, she is able to evoke the nostalgia of the Barry White original all while sounding current with her distinct tone and laid back approach. She stays true to the melody of the original song, yet still manages to make it sound totally new. There is a level of vulnerability and longing in her voice that arrests the listener from start to finish. While this isn’t the style we have come to expect from Summer, it is a welcome change and one I hope she displays again in the near future.
