With just days to go before the release of her new album, Good to Know, JoJo has gifted fans with another preview of what to expect from the project with the release of “Lonely Hearts.” On her Instagram, JoJo described “Lonely Hearts” as a “continuation on the journey of self love that I’ve been on….how temptations and doubt arise…but at the end of the day how choosing self preservation over toxic relationships is the vibe right now.” During these isolating times, JoJo knows exactly what we need to hear to stop us from making bad decisions out of a fear of being lonely.
Sonically, the mid-tempo track is the unfiltered R&B vibe JoJo fans have been longing for. Pair that with her powerful, soul-stirring vocals and it is evident after the first listen why “Lonely Hearts” is a home run for the superstar. JoJo has a knack for articulating the uncomfortable emotions of modern dating with precision. Vulnerable lyrics like “I could pick up the phone right now/And make that 2-A.M. call/I know just what to say/But that ain’t what I need right now/And I won’t let my wants get in my way” demonstrate this to a tee.
If “Lonely Hearts” & “Man” are just a sample of what to expect from Good To Know, music lovers are in for a treat when it drops May 1st.
