R&B superstar Kehlani is taking command of her narrative on her new single “Everybody’s Business.” The singer’s love life has been a great source of inspiration when it comes to her music. Like Mary J Blige and Keyshia Cole before her, Kehlani has always found purpose in her pain by being the voice for young women around the world yearning for someone to articulate their emotion. However, such public relationships have also brought about constant scrutiny of her love life with everyone feeling entitled to have an opinion. She address this head on in the new song and video.
The video opens with a voiceover of a group of people trash talking the singers dating habits. She then proceeds to sing around her property as different news headlines about her flood the screen in a style reminiscent of Britney Spear’s “Piece of Me” video. The chorus of the guitar driven song creatively interpolates Pharrell and Jay-Z’s hit song “Frontin.” A remix with Skateboard P would be a welcome gift during this quarantine.
Kehlani has been keeping a steady stream of new music flowing for her fans. “Everybody’s Business” follows “You Know Wassup,””Toxic,” “Change Your Life,” and “All Me.” There has been no update about whether these releases will be featured on a full body of work or not.
