Rising R&B star Samoht, surprised fans with a video for his 2019 single “222.” In celebration of his album EXIT’s one year anniversary, Samoht gifted fans with a video for the set’s first single. The song is a cautionary tale that if we don’t heal the wounds of our past, we won’t be able to recognize when God sends us a blessing because we’re too busy “lovin’ in fear.”
The Anthony Prince Leslie directed visual may be his best to date. It’s simplistic storyline paired with striking imagery during it’s performance shots makes the video captivating from start to finish. The video is briefly interrupted by an aggressive voicemail from an ex-lover that wasn’t included on the album version of the song. The ex went in so hard it was almost comical. It’s not clear if this voice message sparked the song, but if it did Samoht definitely got the last laugh. Another thing of note in the video is Samoht’s style. Stylist H. Diddy finds the perfect way to effortless blend a high fashion, kingly aesthetic with street appeal. Both his all-white and all black ensembles highlight that Samoht’s fashion is just as unique as his sound.
